Many smokers of today have probably started smoking because it was “cool” or everyone around was doing it. But because now that they’ve come to realize the smoking effects, they finally think of changing but they don’t know how to quit smoking.

There are actually various ways on how to quit smoking. Likewise, remember that there are many different kinds of approaches and the best method for one person may not always be the best method for another.

Also, you must bear in mind that smoking cessation is not a one-step process. In fact, it is common for people to make several “quit trials” before they finally succeed.

How to Quit Smoking: The Natural Way

Cigarettes is so addictive, that is why for most smokers it very hard to quit smoking. However, nowadays, there are already numerous natural ways and tips on how to quit on such habit. In order for you to be able to quit smoking you can try to:

  1. Stay away from alcohol, sugar and coffee

    Alcohol, sugar and coffee stimulate your desire for a cigarette and avoiding such will be good for you. Instead, you can eat low calorie foods like celery, apples and carrots or chew gum or suck on cinnamon sticks.

    Furthermore, you need to avoid fatty foods, as your metabolism will slow down a bit without the nicotine, and you may gain weight even if you eat the same amount of foods as before quitting.

  2. Take fluids

    The first few days, you need to drink a lot of water, for this will help you to flush out the nicotine and other toxins from your body.

    Hence, do also remember that the desire to smoke only lasts a few minutes, and will then pass. This will slowly be lost as the days gone by.

  3. Exercise regularly

    Go to a gym, and exercise. Change your usual routine, or take time to walk or even jog around in your place. In this way, you’d be able to divert your attention and not think of smoking again.

  4. Have some eagerness to really quit

    It is very normal to understand that from time to time, you will still suddenly have the urge to smoke. And usually this will happen out of the blue, most especially during moments of stress.

    If you are unprepared and not eager to resist, giving in to one cigarette will lead you straightly back to smoking.

Other Ways on How to Quit Smoking

  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy

    This involves replacing cigarettes with other nicotine substitutes, for instance nicotine gum or patch.

    According to FDA, nicotine replacement therapy works by bringing small and steady doses of nicotine into the body to ease some of the withdrawal symptoms.

    Some other nicotine replacement therapy are Nicotine inhaler, Nicotine nasal spray and Nicotine Iozenge.

  • Non-nicotine Medications

    Are also helpful in reducing desires for smoking and withdrawal symptoms. At present, bupropion and varenicline are the only two medications that don’t contain nicotine which are approved to be used for smoking cessation.

    Hence, these pills are only intended for short-term use.
